Dampness (in all its forms) is the most frequently reported cause of building defects in the UK.
Damp is a problem that affects all types of buildings and, perhaps given the typical UK weather, this is not surprising.
Whilst there are numerous companies that provide damp surveys – usually for free – these are often connected to damp proof installers. They may have “commercial pressures” in finding damp and may not necessarily recommend the correct repair option. Indeed, the installation of chemically injected damp proof courses can very often be counter-productive.
As Chartered Building Surveyors, we provide independent damp and condensation investigations on all manner of properties, particularly within the heritage and insurance sector.
Our reports will identify the cause of the damp, moisture or condensation, any remedial works required and approximate costs for the works. We use a range of equipment to assist in diagnosing the root cause of the problem, but combine this with years of knowledge and experience.
Such is our experience in this field, we are frequently instructed to produce Expert Witness reports on the matter.
There are several types of dampness within a building which can have varying effects on the building fabric, decoration and the health of its occupants:
often from flooding or surface water
